Under its chairman and managing director, Musa Meah, SAR took the risky decision in the second half of the 1990s of making a high investment in modern machinery and equipment to process ready-packed shrimp products instead of simply supplying block-frozen shrimp from Bangladesh.

Within four years of his takeover, the once-sick firm became a National Export Trophy winner. Its capacity utilization is 80%, compared to 30% on average for other firms exporting only block-frozen products. The "Dolphin" brand has become popular in export markets: the f.o.b. (free on board) value is about US$19 million a year.
