    Informal meeting of ITC's stakeholders

    On 27 November 2003, ITC held an informal meeting for its stakeholders, known as the Joint Advisory Group, to highlight the activities of its Division for Product and Market Development. Under the theme "Innovation to Improve Trade Competitiveness", four sections presented their programmes and tools:

    • Market analysis: a key step in formulating trade strategy. Market analysis is a first step in the preparation of trade development strategies and export plans. A range of market analysis tools is now available for governments, trade support institutions and the business community.
    • Textiles and clothing: the challenge of 2005. In order to cater to the changing needs of the global textile and clothing industry, ITC has adopted a comprehensive approach covering the whole value chain for garment manufacturers in developing countries (for more details, see page 23).
    • Knowledge matters: focus on trade in services. ITC has developed innovative approaches in its technical assistance to help developing countries promote trade in services. Highlights include the creation of an international services network; fostering developing countries' participation in the WTO's General Agreement on Trade In Services process; and programmes for women entrepreneurs.
    • Trade information in a digital environment. With information and communications technologies increasingly within the reach of trade support institutions, ITC is developing dynamic web-based platforms for delivering information services. Its training package, which addresses all elements in the information management cycle, enables partner organizations to take full advantage of new information tools.
