In 2009, a major international colloquium on women's leadership will take place in Liberia, convened by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and President Tarja Halonen of Finland.

ITC strongly supports this event. The first preparatory meeting for the colloquium took place in May at ITC. Participants included the Liberian Ministers of Commerce and Industry, and Gender and Development; Liberia's ambassadors to Germany and Belgium; and the former Finnish Minister of Defence, all of whom are women.

Patricia R. Francis, ITC's Executive Director, underlined the importance of women's leadership in business and trade policy, and has announced that ITC will organize an exhibition of women exporters in parallel to the event, in order to promote business leadership among women.
