ITC organized three training events in the last quarter of 2000. Each event emphasized hands-on practical experience for participants, in particular for retrieving specific business information from the web and drafting programmes for the development of trade information services.

    • French-speaking participants from Algeria, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Morocco and Romania attended a one-week workshop on "Trade Information Sources and Management Techniques" at ITC (16-20 October 2000).

    • ITC held a four-day workshop in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, for the Tourism and Industrial Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago and the local Trade Point, as well as information officers from six Caribbean countries. The seminar was organized in conjunction with the launching of Trade Secrets: the Export Answer Book and 'Trade Maps' in the region.

    • Ten participants from eight countries took part in a two-week trade information seminar in Geneva and London, (27 November-

8 December). In addition to learning information management techniques and practising techniques for accessing specific sources of information, participants visited the Online Meeting in London and selected business information services (e.g., the European Bank for Research and Development, British Trade International and the British Business Library).

    • ITC also contributed to a seminar organized by the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries of the Netherlands (27 November-1 December 2000)

on trade information and market research for 16 participants from developing countries.
