    Kraftman Production and Nollywood films

International Trade Forum - Issue 3/2009

In Nigeria, Kraftman Production pioneered the download of Nollywood movies on mobile phones in conjunction with platform owner 3WC and mobile carrier MTN. The launch of third-generation mobile phones in Nigeria opened up new opportunities in this area, especially as the second national carrier, GLO, is supporting movie downloads through advertising. Kraftman Production is also in the process of packaging a single Internet platform for the African continent.

Kraftman Production was established by Madu Chikwendu in 1995 and has since become one of the most diversified production companies in Nollywood. The company has contributed to the growth of Nigeria's trade in services through the creation and maintenance of professional production and distribution services, both within Nigeria and to fulfil the huge demand for Nollywood movies internationally.
The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, is the third largest film-producing country in the world after Hollywood and Bollywood, creating more than 1,000 films annually. The benefits of the industry have been enormous in promoting Nigeria's national image, art and rich cultural heritage to the outside world. It has also enhanced national cohesion and integration of the country's diverse cultures.
