ITC's Executive Director, J. Denis Bélisle and H.E. Mr. José Miguel Insulza, Minister of Foreign Relations, Chile, were among the speakers at the World Economic Forum China Business Summit (Beijing and Shanghai, April 1999).

Mr. Bélisle analysed China's trade patterns, based on ITC's China TradeMap. He pointed out that the fundamentals for developing trade between China and her neighbouring and other developing countries were promising in spite of the Asian financial crisis.

Organized by the World Economic Forum in partnership with the State Economic and Trade Commission of China and in cooperation with the China Enterprise Management Association, the theme was "Sustaining Growth: Managing Cyclical Adjustment and Long-term Restructuring".

Over 500 participants from the member companies of the World Economic Forum, Chinese business leaders, ministerial-level government representatives, academic experts and the media took part in the Summit.
